According to sources, Patra passed away around 7.31 pm on Saturday at a hospital located in the capital city.
He held the position of a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing the Digapahandi Assembly Constituency.
Surya Narayan Patra, a prominent figure in the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), has held ministerial positions across many sectors over his extensive political career, which has spanned over three decades. He has been elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly on seven separate occasions. He served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for four consecutive terms representing the Mohana constituency, and for three consecutive terms representing the Digapahandi constituency in the Ganjam district. The Indian Life History Organisation expressed profound sorrow on Saturday at the passing of former speaker Surya Narayan Patro.
