Comrade Dr. Joginder Dayal and I worked together as national President and Secretary of All India Student Federation (AISF) during my student days along with Comrade CK Chandrappan and Comrade Sharada Mitra who were spearheading All India Youth Federation (AIYF). Comrade Joginder later became the Secretary of Punjab State Council of Communist Party of India (CPI) and fought very courageously against the Khalistan during the militancy effected periods. We were again colleagues in National Executive of CPI. For a period he served as the President of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS). Personally too we were close family friends. He passed away today at 4.00PM in PG Centre, Chandigarh, We feel sad at his demise. TRIBUTE TO Sri. LONAPPAN NAMBADAN Former Kerala Minister and Member of Parliament, Lonappan Nambadan (78) passed away at a private hospital in Kochi with renal failure. He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly six times and also has served two terms as Minister for Transport and Housing. In 2004 he was elected to the Parliament and was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha. Nambadan, who hails from Thrissur district, was a teacher, before he became a politician. Nambadan was a versatile orator and was loved by people from all walks of life for his quick wit in life and politics. Nambadan Mash has been a good friend and well-wisher of ADIC-India. He was a regular visitor at the ADIC Office when he was a Member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. He was a champion for the cause of Alcohol & Drug abuse Prevention and has raised several issues before the floor of the Kerala Legislature, which has led to positive policy actions. He played a vital role in the transformation of Monody under his constituency as the first Alcohol Free Village in the country in 1991, besides Mattathur Panchayat as the Award Winning Best Panchayat in the State. TV journalist Vipin Chandh dies of COVID-19 Kochi, May 9: Television journalist Vipin Chandh, the chief reporter of Manorama News here, died of COVID-19 related complications in the city early on Sunday, his family said. He was 42 and is survived by his wife and child. Chandh, who was very active in reporting even during the second wave of the pandemic, had tested positive for the virus two weeks ago and was in home quarantine. Later, he was admitted to a private hospital in the neighbourhood. When his condition deteriorated after an attack of pneumonia, he was shifted to a better medical facility in Kochi, where he died at 2 am on Sunday. A native of Alangad in Ernakulam district, Chandh began his journalism career in 2005. He joined Mathrubhumi News in 2012. Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala condoled the demise of Chandh. "This is a sad loss to Malayalam journalism. Industrialist and founder and chairman Emeritus of Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA) Bansidhar Panda passed away Panda passed away at his Bhubaneswar residence on Tuesday. He was 87. Many eminent personalities paid tributes to Bansidhar Panda at his residence after which his mortal remains were taken in an ambulance to his native village Madhuban under Barang block of Cuttack district. A pall of gloom descended on the village and many gathered to catch a final glimpse of Panda. Later, his body was consigned to flames at the village cremation ground by his elder son Baijayant Panda in presence of a huge gathering. Born in 1931, Bansidhar Panda was instrumental in setting up industries that contributed to Odisha’s development in a big way. Panda is survived by his two sons Baijayant Panda, Subhrakant Panda and two daughters Paramita and Nita Ganapati. A renowned research scientist, Bansidhar Panda had embarked upon a journey with a vision to bring industrial revolution after returning from the United States and chose Therubali, a remote outpost in the erstwhile undivided Koraput district of Odisha to give wings to his dreams and had set up IMFA in 1961. Beyond business, he is also known for his philanthropic activities and love for literature. Much before the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Panda has been instrumental in instilling the culture of inclusive growth in IMFA. Inspired by his vision for making a positive impact on the society, IMFA has been doing commendable work in the field of education, vocational training, basic healthcare, water and sanitation and infrastructure development.
