Born at Digapahandi in Ganjam district, the late swami went by the name of Prof Dr Chakrapani Misra before taking up a monastic life. He was deeply influenced by the spiritual teachings of Srimad Swami Vishuddhananda Saraswati and took up a monastic life. Besides guiding a multitude of spiritual seekers from both India and abroad, Swami Chetanananda was also involved in maintaining and expanding a network of spiritual and educational institutions in Odisha, Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.
