BASVAKLAYAN MLA B NARAYAN RAO PASSES AWAY DUE TO COVID-19 Congress MLA B Narayan Rao, who was undergoing treatment for coronavirus, died on Thursday, the hospital in Bengaluru where he was admitted said. The 65-year-old Basavakalyan MLA from Bidar district in North Karnataka was admitted on September 1 after being diagnosed with severe COVID-19 infection, Manipal Hospital Director Dr Manish Rai said in a statement. He passed away Today at 3.55 pm, it said. Well-known poet, dramatist, senior Congress leader and former minister Jadunath Das Mohapatra passed away at a private hospital here on Tuesday afternoon. He was 90. Born on January 3, 1929, Mohapatra was a student leader. He was the president of the Kolkata Utkal Chhatra Sangh. After completing graduation in Law, he had joined the Congress in 1962 and elected as the general secretary of the Balasore District Congress Committee from 1964 to 1967 and later became its president for three years from 1967 to 1970. A three-time MLA, Mohapatra was elected to the Odisha Assembly in March 1971 from his home constituency Soro as a candidate of the Utkal Congress and served as deputy finance minister in 1972 in the cabinet of former Chief Minister Nandini Satpathy. In 1977, he was re-elected as Congress MLA from Soro. He retained his seat in the 1985 Assembly elections and was the Education minister in the cabinet of former Chief Minister Janaki Ballav Patnaik. A reputed writer, Mohapatra authored Odia novels ‘Gramya Nadira Tire’, ‘Bibhisika’, ‘Manisha Rajyaran Jale, ‘Mruta Drama’, ‘Parasamani’, ‘Suryamandira’, ‘Sangram’, ‘Bhulihuena, ‘Khyama Karibeki’, ‘Setubandha’ and ‘Mukha Darpana’. Himachal: Jubbal-Kotkhai MLA Narinder Bragta dies of Covid complications Shimla, June 5: Former Minister and sitting BJP legislator Narinder Bragta died of Covid complications a the PGI, Chandigarh, on Saturday. Bragta who had recovered from Covid had post recovery complications and was under treatment at the PGI for over a month. He was also the Chief Whip of the BJP in the Assembly. Bragta had been elected to the Vidhan Sabha for the first time in 1998 and remained Horticulture Minister in the BJP regime led by Dhumal from 1998 to 2003. He again remained a Cabinet minister in Dhumal led BJP regime from 2007 to 2012. He was born on September 12, 1952. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur while condoling the death of Bragta said the party had lost a sincere and dedicated leader whose loss is irreparable. Former Chief Minister PK Dhumal also expressed grief at the demise of Bragta and said he was a very sincere leader who always worked for the development of his area and people. Bragta’s son, Chetan Bragta broke the news of his father’s demise early morning while stating that his father had lost the fight. His cremation will take place in his native village in Kotkhai tomorrow, where his body will reach in the afternoon from Chandigarh. Bragta had been peeved at not being inducted in the BJP regime headed by Thakur in 2017. He was considered a Dhumal loyalist. Attempts were made to placate him by appointing him as Chief Whip of the BJP in the Vidhan Sabha. The BJP had lost its Mandi MP Ram Swaroop in March earlier this year. Prior to that Congress MLA from Fatehpur in Kangra district had passed away in February. Mr. Nalini Mohanty Passes Away. Senior Congress leader and former minister Mr. Nalini Mohanty, who started his political career in 1977 as a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Rajnagar constituency in Kendrapara district, passed away here today at a private hospital at the age of 63. Mr. Nalini Mohanty, a seven time MLA from Rajnangar was ill for a long period and was admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on October 11 last year due to chest pain. Later he was shifted to All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Delhi on November 2 when his condition deteriorated further. Following improvement in health, he returned from Delhi and was later admitted to Sum Hospital in Bhubaneswar. In his 32 year political career from 1977 to 2009, Nalini, a close friend of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik served several portfolios in state as well as Centre. Dr. V. R. P. Sinha, world-renowned fisheries and aquaculture scientist passed away on December 11, 2021. Dr Sinha worked for nearly five decades in several nations across Europe, Asia, and Africa, making significant contributions to science and society. He served as Director of three major ICAR institutes of India including the ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar and ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore. In 1986, he was one of the founding members of ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar. He was a fellow of important science academies like the Indian National Science Academy, National Academy of Agricultural Sciences and many others. He is a prolific researcher and published more than 140 publications in peer-reviewed journals and also authored 14 books to his credit. He has also served as a consultant with the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program and Food and Agriculture Organization etc. He is the recipient of many prestigious awards including The Leverhulme Fellowship (1964), Hooker Award (1975), Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Memorial Prize (1976), ICAR Team Leadership Award (1979), Lal Bahadur Shastri Award (1989), Great Son of the Soil Award (1991), Ashirwad Award (1992), Congress of Zoology Gold Medal (1995), Eminent Zoologist Award ZSI (2006), and The Millennium Plaque of Honor of ISCA (2008). He was elected Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, New Delhi. Dr Sinha was living with his family in Pennsylvania, USA and passed away on 11 December 2021 at the age of 83. Dr. Saroj Kumar Swain, Director, ICAR-CIFA, expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. "We are very pained by this loss, Dr. Sinha's contributions to biological science, fisheries, and aquaculture, as well as its application to the upliftment of underprivileged farmers, fishermen, and women in India, are well known across the world. Varun was on the chopper as the liaison officer for the visit of General Rawat to the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington. 2. Varun Singh was conferred with the Shaurya Chakra in August for averting a possible mid-air accident after his Tejas light combat aircraft was hit by a major technical accident last year. 3. On October 12, 2020, Singh was flying a test sortie in the LCA when an emergency developed due to the failure of cockpit pressurisation at a high altitude. Group Captain Varun Singh regained control of the aircraft showing exceptional courage and flying skills. 4. After being awarded Shaurya Chakra, Singh wrote an emotional letter to the principal of his alma mater, Army Public School in Chandimandir, which surfaced on social media after the Coonoor chopper crash. 5. "It is ok to be mediocre. Not everyone will excel at school and not everyone will be able to score 90s. If you do, it's an amazing achievement and must be applauded," Singh wrote in the letter, crediting his alma mater for his achievement in life. 6. Singh wrote that he was an average student and barely scored first division in Class 12 but had a passion for flying, which he pursued. 7. Varun had cleared the National Defence Academy test in his very first attempt. 8. Born in Uttar Pradesh, Varun Singh belonged to an Army family. While his father served in the Army Air Defence, his brother is in the Navy. 9. Varun Singh is survived by his wife and two children. 10. After the crash, Varun was rescued by the villagers and was initially treated at Sulur. Later, he was shifted to Bengaluru Army hospital.
